Guest lampshadejaz
I'm using a Sun team hybrid. I have 3 core sun team poke, and then use the other 3 slots to balance out my team. The goal of my team is to provide a very strong offense and sweep opponents in 1 or 2 shots. If i'm not currently sweeping, i'm trying to set up a sweep or fend off an opponent sweeper with Will O Wisp, Sleep Powder, or Blissey. 1.) Drought Timid Ninetales - Flamethower, Roar, Will O Wisp, Nasty Plot. If my opponent is taking it's time against Ninetales, i'll Nasty Plot it up and Flamethower sweep them. Else I get Ninetales to safety as quickly as possible. 2.) Chloro Modest Venusaur - Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Growth, Sleep Powder. Vs the right opponent, 1 growth under the sun turns Venusaur into an invincible health regenerating special sweeping machine even against poke with grass/poison resistance. 3.) Chloro Modest Exeggutor - Psyshock, Solar Beam, Sludge Bomb, Hidden Power Fire. Four moves with excellent coverage. He'll 1 shot or 2 shot a LOT of poke, with very few exceptions. I feel like 1, 2, and 3 are incredible and irreplaceable. I tried squeezing in an HA Charizard, but it's just so bad in this meta. So many things completely own it. So it's cut completely from the team. 4.) Bold Blissey - Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Soft Boiled, Heal Bell. Pretty self explanatory SPDEF tank. I could go Flamethrower instead of Thunderbolt to boost with the sun, but I don't currently have any Electric moves on my other poke so I really need at least 1 for taking out all the poke weak to Electric... 5.) Jolly Garchomp - Swords Dance, Outrage, Earthquake, Iron Head. Decent coverage to go with the sweeping ability. My goal here is to either kill things with 1 move, or Swords Dance to kill things with 1 move next turn. I would ideally have a different poke here, maybe an HA Dragon Dance Dragonite instead. But this is the poke I have at the moment. 6.) I currently don't have an ideal 6 slot. What would you prefer? After playing a bunch of games the past few days, I feel like I need a solid physical wall. Someone recommended Weezing to me as legit contender in this game's PVP meta. Is Weezing a true legit option or is it considered a budget physical wall below clear better options? Also note, I have two Sludge Bombs in my team already between Venusaur and Exeggutor. So adding a 3rd doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm thinking my 5 and 6 slots should be one of the following: 5.) Weavile, Dragonite, Salamence (or my current Garchomp) 6.) Donphan, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Weezing, Forretress, (or my current Sableye).
Guest SugarRed9
I'd recommend defensive donphan becuase rapid spinners are pretty useful ^.^
Guest lampshadejaz
299025 donphan Right, I do not have an entry hazard removal on my team. BUT that being said, I'm usually playing with tempo on my side and there are some percentage of my games I win despite my opponent putting out entry hazards (especially since I cut Charizard). Would it be a good idea to also give my Donphan an entry hazard? My concern with that is this: I'm always leading with Ninetales and looking for offense. Putting pressure on them. If I have a Donphan on my team, i'd be tempted to lead with him and get an Entry hazard down quickly... The other option would be to just give Donphan more of an attack variation and ONLY have Rapid Spin and NOT an entry hazard. I could always put an entry hazard on Donphan and not use it until mid-late game. But at that point, I lose a lot of value on it...

As you pvp with donphan more, you will find some pretty good opportunities to drop stealth rock. Usually the set is stealth rock, rapid spin, earthquake, and knock off. If I do go with Donphan, i'll be cutting Sableye which has Prankster + Will O Wisp. Say one of my poke dies to Dragonite after he set up Dragon Dance, I would normally swich into Sableye and Prankster out a Will O Wisp to slow him down. How can I handle this with Donphan? Crunching some numbers in psypokes's calculator Dragonite will still 2 shot my Donphan (maybe 3 shot once leftovers is factored in) if it's set up with Dragon Dance... Lazypanda69
I feel like your team will have a very bad time with talonflame, which is one of the most op pokemon in current "meta". So something like impish arcanine that can stop talon's momentum while taking advantage of the sun and deal tons of damage with flare blitz(both morning sun and flare blitz takes advantage of sun, which makes him really good in sun team). Or something like bold tangrowth/slowbro to tank-stop opponent sweeper. Veno and Exgg is pretty much doing the same thing, so if the opponent can stomp over veno, he can do the same to exgg, so I actually wouldn't put them on the same team, because of type redundancy. The last spot can be an all round OP pokemon that's the ace to your team, like snorlax(bring him in to sweep after you deal with opponent ghost) or Dragonite, etc.

I'm new to PVP and am fluttering between ranks 40 and 120. But at these ranks I'm not seeing many Talonflames. Maybe they're all at higher ranks (lol)? The only Talonflame I saw yesterday in my PVP session I one-shit-killed with something that was already set up and rolling. I understand your point on Venu and Exgg being redundant. I try to play one early and one late, rather than back to back or being stuck with 2 of them as my last 2/3 living poke. But both have been some of my most consistent and successful offensive weapons so it's hard to cut either one of them. Egg consistently sweeps several poke, with a few exceptions, and opponents seem to make a lot of mistakes playing against Venu. They assume it's bold and slow and let me set up an easy growth under the sun and then I just sweep them. If I get to higher ranks i'll probably have to change my strategy/team (as you've mentioned). Regarding the Impish Arcanine, would you EV train 252/252 on ATK and DEF?
