Nope, but you don't need to defeat him in order to get to Trainers Valley (and he doesn't give any rewards)

Hello Paolos, I am sorry that you lost but I am sure it was a hard fight. The Red boss is a 1 time thing battle, wining or losing the game will allow you to go to Trainers Vally if you meet the other requirements.
