Hello everyone!

This is a suggestion for a player customization addition.

Chances are that this is one of the more radical things I've suggested, at least from my point of view, but never the less, it's something that I think would be a good addition and something that is, quite frankly, expected in our day and age - I do not mean this disrespectfully.

I don't know if this was the case for many others, but I do think that it must have been the case for more people than just me; I had no idea that I would be wearing my username as my name tag. Perhaps that sounds ridiculous, but trough the systematic programming of the original Pokemon games every other year, I had grown accustomed to getting to name my character. And as such I didn't expect for us to not be able to set a name that others would know us by. Which is what this suggestion revolves around.

The question of difficulty is, of course, of great importance here and the viability of this suggestion hinges on that - I'm aware of that much. But, as the saying goes; Nothing worth keeping is easy, so let's get into it. The idea here is to create an item that could be purchased trough the game shop, for coins of course, that would allow us to set up a Display Name, or a Character Name, rather - The item itself would disappear after the use, essentially being a consumable, much like the MS item currently is. Now, I call it a Display Name because that would be the intended use of the item; Not to change your actual username, that stays the same (As it would be a nightmare to change it, I'm guessing), what changes is that the server sets up a Display Name that it shows to others rather than the actual user name itself. The same rules would of course apply as to when selecting a User Name; A character limit, no capitalization past the first letter and so on - but what this would offer is the liberty of further customizing our characters. Not only that, it would give those of us who didn't spend too much time thinking about our username selection a way to resolve that very issue.

The username could still be displayed next to the display name in the Trainer Card, in order to be able to identify the same person, even if the name had been changed, such as; "Mario (Mario1992)" Where "Mario" is the Display Name and "Mario 1992" is the User Name and thus the ID of the person, but when walking around or talking in chat, what the game would show is simply "Mario". The names should, of course, be singular and the server should check both the User Name and the Character Name lists, before allow the name change to go trough. If the change does go trough, however, that's when the item is removed from the inventory (It would be silly if the item was consumed even though the game didn't allow you to change your name due to what you wanted being taken). The same item could then be used by a person to alter their Display Name, if they so desire. Perhaps they misspelled it the first time, or grew tired of it, or went trough a identity crisis much like when Snoop Dogg become Snoop Lion (Wtf?).

Whether this item would be trade-able or not, is largely up to you, although I see no reason for it not to be if the User Name is still displayed, as explained above, in the Trainer Card (This means that a scammer can't just "reset" their reputation, as an example).

The technical difficulty, if there is any, might be the pivot that determines the true usefulness of this idea. I've played games where this wasn't all too difficult to code, and so it was done rather quickly, and I've also played games where this would involve too much effort - which one of the two this is, I don't yet know. But I'm hoping it's the former :D

342618 no capitalization past the first letter

342618 -snip-

Hello LetalisVO,

I think they already said that this won't happen multiple times and I didn't know that "no capitalization past the first letter" was a thing, my name has two capital letters in it, not ingame but on the ladder for example it shows my name correctly.

An acronym for "random number generator" or "random number generation", it refers to the process by which computers generate apparently random numbers, essentially the computer equivalent of 'chance'.

Ah, well, that's too bad. Maybe they'll get around to it some day! It'd be a very nice addition to have :D

And aye, I meant in game. The capitalization seems to apply everywhere else but in game, oddly enough.

Hello LetalisVO,

as I mentioned in my last post in another thread like one minute ago, they will never add something like re-naming in the game for various reasons, such as the non-pg matter and yeah its kinda odd that it doesn't apply in game.

Greetings
