This bug is extremly annoying.

Is there any way to change my resolution from the gamefiles instead of having to wait for the next update?

This is absolutely bizzare. I don't encounter this behaviour myself. You can change the resolution outside of the game. It is, however, a bit clunky to do so:

1. Open the registry editor (hit Win+R and type "regedit")
   
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PROTeam\Pokemon Revolution
   
3. Find the values names of which start with "Screenmanager Resolution Width" and "Screenmanager Resolution Height". They will have random garbage after that text in the name, disregard it.
   
4. Change those values accordingly. Make sure to use decimal mode when entering new values for your height/width, as using the default, hexadecimal mode, will result in values being entered incorrectly.
