New to the game, but already got 6 Kanto badges. Here’s my question: I see that some things are locked behind progress like trading. When do you know that is unlocked? Is there a guide that shows us what each badge allows us to do? This sixth badge doesn’t seem to do anything...

You should be able to trade once you reached the Rainbow badge from Celadon City, so the 4th one. Sometimes you have to relog or restart your client once you get the Badge to allow the game to let you trade. Keep in mind that you and your trade partner have to be in the same Pokecenter in order to trade.
