So I just beat the Grass Gym in Celadon and Red popped up outside and just decimated my team with his Pikachu... Is this supposed to happen? Cuz it didn't seem very fair

yep red likes to defeat starters. he will do that again at victory road. same counts for blue (but you can defeat him at saffron silph corp.). you can't do anything. just accept it and loose :P
