I haven't pvp'd yet, but I'm trying to learn. Why do people make sand/rain/etc teams based on the weather? Is it random, or do you get to choose? I'm looking to make my first team. I'm looking at a sand team, but does that mean I'm screwed if it's raining?

It helps when you google "Rain - Pokémon" for example. Because you will find every information you need + I save Important writing time which I could invest in important things like PRO :kappa:

But to the question "why?": Because its strong. But its not a must have to have a weather based team.

Of course I'm talking to myself, sometimes I have to talk with an intelligent person.

They do that because there is a lot of Pokémon whose abilities are based on those weathers. Sand Rush (Excadrill), Swift Swim (Kingdra, Ludicolo, Seismitoad, Kabutops) get double Speed if their respective weathers are up (Sandstorm and Rain, respectively). So you can outspeed your opponent and kill opposing Pokemons more faster. Hydration cures any type of status if your on Rain, and more.

If you choose one weather or another, I think its for preference.

Common staple Pokemons for each are:

Sandstorm: Tyranitar, Excadrill, Hippowdon, Tangrowth, etc.

Rain: Politoed, Kabutops, Ludicolo, Omastar, etc.

If there is rain, you don't get the benefits of your sandstorm. So you have to place it again in order to get the upper hand on your opponent. If your sand setter is dead, then your opponent can have a break and place his own weather. Or just relax, because you will no longer outspeed him.

Well, I'll explain the little I know.

Each climate produces a certain function, for example: Ninetales has the Drought ability, which summons the sun, other Pokemon need the sun to unleash their abilities, eg Venusaur has the ability Chlorophyll, which doubles the speed while the sun is shining strong, another skill which needs the sun is the Solar Power that makes the Pokemon lose 12.5% HP, but the special attack increases by 50%.

The Rain is summoned by skill, skill used by Politoed and Pelipper, and again other Pokemon will need rain, such as: Kindra with Swifth Swin, which will double speed during the rain, and Ludicolo's Rain Dish that heals 1/16 of Maximum HP in the rain.

In Sandstorm summoned by the Sand Stream ability the Pokemon that possess these abilities are: Tyranitar, Hippowdon and Gigalith. The skills needed by Sandstorm are: Sand Force, which increases the power of Ground, Rock and Steel attacks by 30% in a sandstorm. Sand Rush, which doubles the speed and Sand Veil, that evasion increases by 20% in a sandstorm.

If you use a Ninetales that has Drought and your opponent shortly after that put a Politoed with Drizze, the climate that will stand out will be the one that has been placed last.

Of course I'm talking to myself, sometimes I have to talk with an intelligent person.
