Kanto safari is kinda nice since you can use the repel trick to avoid other encounters and avoid a madness when you find a shiny paras.

I think thats would be the best method, there are also some spots where you always move 5 steps in the grass and get blocked by a rock or whatever, that makes it easy to count your repel steps, you should do that. Trust me nothing is more annoing when you catch a shiny whatever while you use a repel...
