Can't climb waterfall rt 119A

I cannot figure out why this waterfall in particular won't let me climb it.

 

I tested it out with a friend and she was able to climb it and so was a passerby, yet for some reason I cannot. I was spamming spacebar and holding it, my friend told me to face left then climb, I beat e4 and have my waterfall mon with Max happiness yet I still can't climb this waterfall. I tried to get off my mount and use regular surf, still won't work. I had no issues climbing other waterfalls yet this one just isn't letting me.

 

Is there something else I'm doing wrong? It seems bugged though.
