PokeHelper

General Idea :Light:

I'll be blunt, Help chat is a mess.

I want to officially suggest the implementation of a new staff rank.

Name is of course up for change, But off the bat i suggest "PokeHelper." So i'll refer to it as such throughout this thread.

Purpose of this is to provide ingame knowledge ala "General pokemon knowledge" ( Not progression knowledge, with perhaps an exeption of HM locations ) to the community.

Be it competitive or PVE.

Aswell as perhaps to direct people to the valid guides found on the forums.

Example 1: evolutionary method of Haunter/kadabra/Graveler/Machoke

Example 2: Hints towards flash/cut.

Example 3: Whats the best nature for dunsparce?

Whenever a question needs an answer, The Pokehelper would dwell in help chat to assist.

Too often we see people desperately going on "all" chat, which can result in an ugly manner.

And if help is either ignored or dismissed in all chat, We get some rather angry people to deal with.

Just today, Bhardhis was attacked on a personal level due to this.

Would'nt it just be delectable to avoid that in the future?

I think so personally.

Now all this being said, Theres the issue of what permissions this rank would have.

I suggest a simple Mute and Kick. Ban is debateable, but i personally believe that permission should be left to a higher status.

As every chat ever, trolls or the like would evidently appear, Which brings me to a second purpose of this rank.

Just as a note, i highly suggest a sheet of information they wont be able to share with the community.

For example; if we can share the location of items neccesary to progress.

Cleaning up help chat.

"Go help chat" is a void and blank suggestion. I suggest anyone in doubt of this, to Stick around there for a while.

currently help chat is a compilation of questions unanswered, with an occasional group of people there willing to answer.

And if not that, The chat is abused as a forum for trolls keeping general discussions there, rather than "All tab"

The second purpose of the PokeHelper would be to make help chat functional.

As much as people say "Go help chat" i assure you, most people try.

It should be a place within the game to effectively seek the help you need to further the players knowledge.

Evidently, its unrealistic to expect people to just keep a bulbapedia page open at all times.

Which woops, look at that. Leads me to ideas of requirements.

-

Requirements

Of course, i suggest a vast knowledge of pokemon as a whole.

Competitive, PVE, Whatever. You should obviously have a general, if not better idea.

But aswell as that, I suggest people who are known to and willing to help. Not just in help chat, but overall.

The whole purpose of this is to help the community. So people who aren't keen on doing this, or have yet to do this,

Are more than likely not the best picks.

For example, your ordinary "Go help chat" responder, is probably not the best pick either, With the condition of the current help tab.

But rather those known to give quick and accurate answers.

However, Finding the knowledge is as important as knowing it.

I suggest a firm, close relationship with informative sites such as Bulbapedia.

I'd almost say, Make it your starting page for your web browser, if this is indeed a position you seek.

-

And before i end, i'd like to assure you that i am no new player.

This is my alternate account, And i've been on/off active on my account "Jebus" since public release.

So do not dismiss my thread based on that assumption. Thanks.

So, i'd say that concludes my suggestion.

I appreciate the time you've taken to read it. :thanks:

Regards

~ Awoken Eyes.

I don't agree with this one tho. General pokemon knowledge shouldn't be on help chat. they are easy found by googling or using bullbapedia/smogon . Helping decent with the story is ok. Like you said, how to obtain certain stuff. also giving hints to finish a certain quest is nice.

So, ignore the hundreds of people asking basic questions?

I dont think we have a choice.

As i stated in the post, We can't expect the ordinary joe to have a relationship with bulbapedia.

It simply doesnt happen. Too many people dont bother seeking information on their own.

They're much more comfortable asking people ingame, due to assuming someone is bound to know the answer.

Its either make it part of the job, Or nothing changes.

no, tell them to google. that works just fine. some questions just deserve this answer than. also for pvp questions i always said. go to smogon first, read the strategy. it's just simply better than spamming the help chat with 100 strategies for one pokemon. I'm ok with some basic questions, but not with "what level does pokemon xyz evolve", "how to catch pokemon", etc.

I'd just prefer to answer questions that are really hard to find out with google or anything else. (story as example)

than the helpers job has to be to advise him to this site. not only giving people the answer. If this "average joe", like you said, doesn't want to search for an answer or listen to this advise he doesn't deserve help in my opinion. Promoting laziness? no thanks

Anyways I totally agree with your point tho. it's just this what annoys me. but that's me. we should see what mods/ other player think about this

Do forgive me for posting so often on the thread, but i do feel these replies warrants answers.

Dear seibuza, While you call it promoting laziness, i call it facing the reality of the situation.

If people were willing to seek out the information on google, The question would not have been asked in the first place.

Show me a person who does not know google.

Calling it "Lazy" as if some effort is warranted, is strange.

Its simply a matter of confidence in the belief, that people ingame would know the answer they seek.

I dont find it to be any different than typing in a searchbar, Exept that it would be more time consuming.

Shouldnt we help the players? Directing them to google seems to me personally, as an act of dismissing the person.

As if you'd care nothing for the question or the person asking it.

Nothing but negative reactions would come from that.

It would also negate the whole point of the job. The pokehelper would be there to help. Not to direct them to a search engine.

The pokehelper would provide a service for the playerbase to take advantage of.

The whole point of this is to deal with these hundreds of questions and strategies where they belong, To prevent them from flooding into the other tabs like "all" where they are received negatively.

Which is exactly what would happen, If we simply told them to go on google.

Recently the Global Moderator role was re-purposed to serve in a similar way as the position you described.

Since this game was released, the staff has held onto the idea that we want the community to help each other. This is why *we* direct players to the Guide section of the forum, typically don't answer quest-related questions, and encourage the players to explore the world and find their own way.

That being said... we'll be keeping a closer eye on the Help channel to identify potential CC apprentices. :)
