I am glad to inform you that this issue has now been fixed as shown below. There was actually work being done on it. You should now be able to battle the gym leader. Do take note that Gym Leaders do not give EXP after the first battle since you may rebattle them after you lose. Sorry, work being done on it. Should be fine now.
