when this happens to me, I always wait untill the game finishes "loading" and the game won't crash & you'll be able to catch the pokemon. However, if you stress the game and click/push buttons, it stops running then it crash. So if you're patient it will get back to normal, sometimes you'll need to wait up to 3 minutes (longest I've waited atleast).

I've the same problem everytime when open the bag, (only the first time) I need to wait 30-60 seconds. Maybe depends to have many items in bag and need time to loading.
