I wouldn't generalize the entire community based on this individual experience. There are many people willing to help to at least a certain extent. I'm sorry you encountered a bad experience. I still am pretty new to Pokemon even with tons of play time. I never get out side of the casual level generally. People are still generally willing to help me. It's because it has a set Damage that it doesn't say super effective or not very effective. Just like the move Night shade. It also can't have critical hits.
