you don't need perfect iv'd pokemon for competitive. that's the beauty of a game without breeding - the standards for comps will come down, as well. 20+ bulk, 25+ attack and sometimes 31 speed are more than acceptable for competitive play
-
lol how pathetic Edit: not you, bobby

I think you'll find that eventually shinies will separate themselves from comps, the two groups don't intersect all that much. Honestly using a shiny in competitive play can put you at a disadvantage because of scouting - once you reveal your moveset/ev spread/etc on a shiny pokemon, people will always have that information. This doesn't take away from the value of shinies, though, since the demand for shinies is there regardless of IVs. I'm not saying high IV shinies won't be worth more, but I personally would never use one. Also, the encounter rate for shinies is extremely high(as in easy to get shinies) compared to most other similar MMOs, so be thankful for that

Personally I think you should beat the game before worrying about competitive. In order to have a solid comp collection you'll need access to as many pokemon and areas as possible, so beating the game will get you closer to this goal. Plus, you can get absolutely lost searching for even 1 comp worthy pokemon, so I like getting the storyline out of the way so I don't feel guilty about spending 4 hours hunting for a heracross or something. If you happen to catch a nice comp poke on storyline, that's always nice too. But as far as I can remember, EV reducing berries are a pain to get, so be careful about using those storyline gods.

Haha my apologies, it seems you know your EVs pretty well after all. Only reason I suspected the opposite was you mentioned something about players having to be careful to only gain the EVs they needed for the stat they were raising. Good comp players will have EVing down to a science here soon, and they'd be the ones abusing this mechanic Re: the overestimating of the amt of dedication people have when it comes to this tedious process - I've been on other games before very similar to this, and its amazing the lengths people will go to gain an advantage competitively. It's basically murphy's law in these situations - if it CAN be abused, it WILL be abused. And the problem is, if this were to become a thing, extremely high IVd pokes would become the competitive standard - meaning, if you don't stack EVs on EVs for all your pokemon you'll be at a competitive disadvantage to others who did (unless you're very very lucky with catches). Another problem I see is that this reinforces what I consider to be an extremely boring and all around terrible game mechanic - EVing. With your solid knowledge of the generations, I'm sure you know that gen VI finally implemented some fresh new methods to EV train pokemon. However, we're stuck here with the old "smack x-hundred of these things and y-hundred of these and try to keep your eyelids open." One last thing - the appeal of this game, to a lot of people, is that wonderful catchmmo feeling you get when you snag a fantastic IVd poke. While I personally prefer breeding-centric games, I can't deny the thrill of seeing an absolute god pop up in your computer when you go to check IVs. That seems to be the environment staff is going for, so any sort of IV manipulation is probably out of the question.

Haven't seen anyone else point this out yet - 510 is the max total EVs for a single Pokemon. The max for one stat, however, is 252. I think you're overestimating how much effort that takes to achieve reading through your posts on this thread again, it seems you're pretty unfamiliar with EVing in general. Not only is there an EV training area with places specifically set out for each EV, but there are also areas in the wild that only give specific EVs. For example, in Dark Cave in Johto when you surf in certain places, Attack EVs are the only ones you can obtain. Add in the macho brace effect, and EVing isnt really that time consuming imo. Were this idea implemented, I think a dedicated player could probably turn a 15/15/15/15/15/15 pokemon into a 5x31 in a couple of days, tops

+1 for a well formulated response, complete with support for your assertions. There's nothing wrong with being blunt, but you've gotta provide some evidence when you make statements like "literally not feasible." Yeah I'm sure as a mod, it sucks having to constantly ban people for using bad names and stuff. And the moderators probably have an even harder time keeping up with chat, which constantly scrolls on and on, filled with people cursing or evading the filter etc etc. But nicknames for pokemon are such a core concept of this franchise that I truly believe the pros outweigh the cons, and that the extra work for the mods is worth it to allow for nicknames. Having never been a mod, maybe it's easier for me to say that. I also think making nicknames a money sink would help alleviate the problem. Who is gonna spend their hard earned pokedollars (or valuable IRL money) just to make a nickname that's gonna get them banned? Maybe some people - but a LOT of the troublemakers who would otherwise abuse the filter would be out of the equation. There could even be a warning message that pops up when you're about to nickname a poke, reminding users that they could face serious consequences if they choose an inappropriate nickname

From Forum Rules: 3. Toxicity towards users and community as whole will be sanctioned and discipline measure will be taken.

nvm, not worth it. If a former staff member thinks it's not feasible, that really doesn't have an impact
-
>Literally How about this: moderators do their job and moderate nicknames like they do chat. Would that be difficult? Maybe - no more difficult than moderating chat. But it's certainly feasible. Get your hyperbole shit out of here, or contribute to the discussion with something a little more substantive
-
lol you are calling 6x sweeper teams uncompetitive, and yet you run baton pass teams? Buddy, baton pass is by definition uncompetitive
-
I mean, I guess this logic combats the comparison with player names, but how does it stand up to the challenge that nicknames would be no harder to moderate than chat? Someone could easily walk up to any player and *gasp* subject them to curse words and slang curse words and foreign curse words. Yeah, there's a filter, but filters can easily be circumvented for those inclined to break the rules. I don't know if it's even possible to place a filter on nicknames, but it seems like it would be, right? And then, any nicknames violating the rules would be handled on a case by case basis (same way chat is moderated - if someone breaks the rules, they're punished when they're caught)

Are tms in this game permanent like gen 5 and 6?
Trope44 replied to Gravitas's topic in General Support
Custom? What he means is, are TMs reusable - if you use a Tm, does it go away or does it stay in your bag. IIRC, they are NOT reusable, and you only get one use per TM -
So what is the reason? Hope I don't get a sanction for this post, but usually when someone says "there is a reason for X," they then provide that reason

So you only want feedback on parts of the suggestion, but for the specifics you don't want any feedback? Seems counter-intuitive; that means regardless of the feedback here, we could still end up with something that wouldn't be liked by the same people who supported the idea, so I recommend moving this to Suggestions and presenting your suggestion like a normal player with full disclosure of your thoughts and how this should be implemented. Generally speaking, I'm for it and things like this, but it doesn't matter because you can't intentionally leave out details of your suggestion and have anyone review it properly. All suggestions should be judged equally, and you're missing important parts from your pitch. Your suggestion shouldn't get special treatment just because you have a green name. If something unnecessary is pinned, it should be on merit, but this thread is only two days old and hasn't faced much real criticism yet. As for what you've presented, I think you should change the name from "The Revolution Army" to The Revolutionary Army (unless it was a mistake). Sounds better, but more importantly, it makes more sense grammatically. Names are only temporarly to give out a proper chart, which indicates that they are not decided. As for mechanics, this is something that needs to be discussed internally with the content team, which is the usual procedure in how we introduce things. lel m8, you only addressed a fraction of miles' post. Seriously though, if this is gonna be pinned, you could at least clean up the OP. It looks awful right now - an oddly formatted glob of random bits of information rife with spelling and grammatical errors. This is the highest pinned staff created topic in one of the most popular sections of the forums, after all.
