Numpad numbers as well as Numbers on the upper top of the keyboard are used both different. You can map them freely by just doing so.

Actually you can just play the game with your number pad only. Though you will have to keep pressing number lock in between movement controls and actions. There also changing the key mapping if you wish.

Well seeing it can be held by a Pokemon for both PVE and PVP, definitely. Though you'll probably should check the current PVP rules if you CAN use it in the current state of meta of the game. You'll find it probably in the Guide or PVP Board.

Agreed, the whole player base should know that the game was coded for a small base of players as stated by Shane. If it wasn't, there wouldn't have been a need for the creation of two additional servers.

Ghost queue. It happens and I recommend you don't touch the game and let its load because you are still being connected to the game and the queue itself. It's just sometimes, the UI doesn't want to show the queue itself which people soon consider to call it what I said above. Also a quick note, make sure that your credentials are inputted correctly as just like if the queue is showing, if it's wrong, you got to start back to square one.
