It isn't changed, it's just not coded, it will be working in future.

Most trainers don't even care for their starters if it has bad iv's, as many have traded their starters away for another Pokemon or for money. We placed this system because this is a MMO.

This is a known issue, Use Xpadder till then.

There is, on the login screen itself when you try to login it shows "connecting to server".

Cannot connect to server means either the server is full or the game is down, try logging in and you'll get in.
