I had to be lvling against ratatas for 1 day long to be able to get to the 3th gym and beat people in the underground (And I lost agains the trainers with pokemon al lvl 31, that one with Scizor and that one with Teddiursa and Murkrow). You CAN'T lvl in Ilex Forest, pokemon there are just lvl 7-9, it's ridiculous while trainers pokemon are lvl 2x. And lvl in the next zone is quite difficult, there are only ratatas and a few other pokemon (And if you lvl there you just destroy your EV's, but it doesn't matter in that point of the game). There's a bit problem between the second gym and the third gym; you can do it if you lvl a lot sacrificing a LOT of time and patience, but is VERY irritant (A was about of buying a lvl 70 pokemon in the trade chat to bypass this zone).
