Every Pokemon falls under a particular experience gain group. There's a good chance the level 15 Pokemon you're using is either in the fluctuating or the slow experience group, so it needs more experience than other Pokemon. It's also worth noting that experience requirements and gains are scaled up to make leveling faster in this game than in the actual games, so experience as a whole will be different from the main games.

Description and Message A few minutes after we did the trade, I appeared to have the Weedle and the Magikarp back. After trying to drag them into different slots in my party, the system told me that there was no Pokemon in each slot, and then they both disappeared, along with the $19k. TL;DR: Traded 2 Rare Candies, got $19k, looked like they were back, lost them again, but didn't get back the money.
