I was wondering why i never seen a steelix in pvp. I mean, he's a monster. He's the highest, or one of the higher, defense pokemons in the game. My Steelix's stats are something like 500 def, 350 hp, 225 atk. With access to stealth rock, elemental punches, and earthquake, i can't find a reason to dont use it. He tank all the dragons, Weavile, Snorlax, and other major threats. I tought about change him for Donphan/Forretress due to Rapid Spin, but i think it isn't worth, cause if we have a good setup, the enemy can't setup (at least, do it at 100%).

Tell me your oppinion guys about him, guys!

With all iv's 31 and same ev's (def+hp):

Donphan stats - 385 hp, 370 def, 275 atk, 155 spdef, 135 spd.

Steelix stats - 355 hp, 500 def, 225 atk, 165 spdef, 95 spd.

Standard Donphan moveset: Earthquake / Rapid Spin / Stealth Rock / Knock Off.

Standard Steelix moveset: Earthquake / Stealth Rock / Ice Punch / Fire Punch (or change Thunder Punch for one of them).

The only advantage of using Donphan is removing entry hazards. The speed difference isn't that much important cause you can't outspeed almost no one with Donphan (same with Steelix). And with -130 def, you will take much more damage than with Steelix and die much more easier. Steelix is immune to Toxic. His moveset cover more types. I only see Rapid Spin against Steelix in this situation.

Edit: Steelix is immune to 2 types, resistant to 8 types and weak (x2) to 4 types. Donphan is immune to 1 type, resistant to 2 types only, and weak (x2) to 3 types.

As you say, Donphan got Rapid spin which the first reason why he is prefered by most people.

The second is Knock off, knock off is a very strong moove which can turn back game into your advantage ( especially when the main thread in the meta,as I had heard, is Gengar). Sure there is not that much objects cool to remove actually but they will be more and more objects implemented in the game and Knock off will be more and more powerfull.

No think about it, would you like to train a Steelix who gonna be better during 2-3 months or a Donphan who will be effective during all his lifetime ?:p

I've battled a lot, Steelix both has a good and improvement side.

Good (Not all times): Make a team with good def and spdef wall with atk sweepers, players use spatk mostly to kill it but not atk cuz Firefang/Scizor, Steelmove/mamo and etc.

Improvement: I know u said "Current Meta" so, Curse is needed and air baloon or a weaknesspolicy kinda item.

Use Steel with some another def/spdef and rest attackers depends upon ur choice.

Just suggestion.

81199 Actually use stelix with weakness policy that should boost stats drasticlly and packs quite a punch for oponnet sorry 4 bad grammar! and late reply im new XD!!!

........need Weakness Policy to be in game first, though.

Steelix has elemental FANGS, not Punch

....which Donphan also has, although only 2 of them (Fire & Thunder Fang through move relearner).

And if you want offense on Steelix, then I think Steelix is better with Curse instead of Stealth Rock, and Gyro Ball instead of one of the Fangs. You only need Ice + Ground for major coverage anyway. Otherwise, don't give Fang moves on Steelix, because without any boost, the damage is just not worth it. Fang moves only have 65 base power.

I don't know if Gyro Ball is already obtainable on it or not, though, considering it doesn't learn the move via level-up until Gen 6, and I can't check due to not having the dex data yet. But staffs have said they'll update all Pokemon's movepool to Gen 6 standard.

Yes, my bad, it's elemental fangs  nvm, curse and gyro ball are bugged at the moment, so the moveset is something like i said. I feel like, if i change Steelix with other poke like Donphan i can't tank and i can't scare no one only with earthquake/knock off :Ambivalent:

81390curse and gyro ball are bugged at the moment, so the moveset is something like i said.

Ah, so they're bugged, huh. That's another problem with making moveset in this game at this moment - some moves are either still bugged, or just downright unavailable xD

Maybe Steelix will be more used once those moves are no longer bugged.
