As quoted from Walrosskastanie's announcement on Discord, WalrosskastanieToday at 6:02 AM Server is up, all excavation sites have been updated with new spawns. New fossils have been added. Shiny stones no longer have special spawns, they only have a higher chance to get rare Pokemon. Fossils are no longer MS-only. Pickaxe is no longer needed for shiny stones. Hope this clarifies things for you.
