I was battling Koichi on hard difficulty. I only had one pokemon left: Donphan with Sturdy ability. Donphan had full hp, but Koichi's Pangoro killed it with a single Hammer Arm, despite the Sturdy ability.

Pangoro can have the Mold Breaker ability which ignores a lot of other abilities in a fight. Sturdy is one of them, and he basically one shot you because he had Mold Breaker.

Alright, that explains it. Wiki said that Koichi's Pangoro would have Iron Fist, but maybe it's not up to date then.
