There are many requirements that you have fullfit first in order to unlock the LC David boss in hard mode: Unlock the 6 tutors in Breezy Falls. Each tutor will have a small quest for you. Find and feed Foongus, Vullaby, Snivy and Spritzee. Interact with the 5 NPC from E4 after their defeat. Interacting with the right sequence will reward you with an item. I hope this helps. You haven't beaten David thrice and you forgot the Knock Off Tutor as well which you can unlock by interacting with that tree.
