I tend to go from my PC to my phone and use VPN's so I have no doubt it caused this issue.


My phone when logging into my account puts me in the middle of the water near the Sevii islands on the map but black all around me..

My pc version has no issue and loads where I logged off at last from it. 
My mobile character gets updated with my pokemon and items but not my location.

not a video but I cant move from here. it shows the directional circle when I touch the screen.

This is also a screen shot of my partner who plays only on mobile but she was playing when I was playing on the same WIFI and we both got kicked offline at the same time and now she is like this. This is the same issue I had and posted here about. after I uninstalled the mobile game, it fixed on my account. But I uninstalled and reinstalled on her phone and there is no change.

The issue usually only occurs when playing on mobile data.
Please tell her to check if she was using WIFI or a VPN (while having mobile data enabled) at that time.

We did try if on mobile data thinking that us being on the same WIFI grinding, but it did not help.
She was unable to get in last night when we checked before bed, but this morning we were able to get her logged in.

If it happens over WIFI again I'll update here. 

You mentioned it being a possible mobile data issue. Is there somewhere I can go to keep updated on that?
