Agreed with what Samesky said.

Nicknames are pretty important and they aren't very hard to implement. (I Assume)

I dont think many people would rename their pokemon to something offenssive; those who do would just get reported

Also, a small fee can be placed.

Put into perspective the current rate in which inappropriate nicknames must be moderated, and then contextualize how players are able to pluralize the nickname creations with Pokemon, due to how many more Pokemon exist than accounts; one can envision tenfold the amount of moderation needed for the latter.

Inappropriateness is obviously a risk we're needfully taking with accounts, as it is the only visibly unique identifier to accounts; but in the case of Pokemon nicknames, the essentiality of that feature is outbalanced by the moderational concerns that would stem from it.

The only negotiable compromises for the vault to be opened for user-custom Pokemon-nicknaming is to either impose lofty enough requirements, such as requiring that the player must be deep enough in the game wherein most wouldn't risk venturing into bannable territory for such a stunt, or--more plausible--if the nicknames were only client-sided--in other words, only displayable to the owner.

At the point in which you meet Mr. Fuji, you are already at least 3-4 hours into the game. I see that being a good area. Nicknames are very important to any pokemon game. And as @skimsy said, putting a small fee is a great way to deal with this as well. It can help regulate the economy too. But you must also see it like this. The only real time ANYONE will ever see your pokemon's names is when they get into a battle with you. Which in my opinion is a late game feature. The pvp in early game is almost non existent because you have such low level pokemon.

Locking this topic.

Nicknames wont be added. They arent a gamebreaking feature if theyre not added.

All this backlash on something that was sentimental (at best) in the hanfhelds . The only time when nicknaming actually provided a function was when you named pokemon in RBY, then transferred them to Pokemon Stadium (N64). It gave them wierd colours (u coukd get lime green pikachus for example).

Please refer to the topic labled 'things NOT to be added in PRO' in the future.
