Steven wont leave granite cave

Im stuck at Dewford. Ive spoke to Mr Stone to double check i have the letter and he just says "I am the director of this place and i am rich too". When i speak to Steven he tells me he is busy researching the rocks and that i need to come back later? Im not sure if im missing anything or if this is a bug but im not sure how to progress. (nvmd i figured out a step i was missing lol mb)
