As @Lyn1311 has already mentioned this is not a bug but an intended feature. You can think of a situation where you catch a Pokémon with a full party, switch it in your PC, and then release it while engaged in another battle. These steps will break the game's battle. As a result, whilst a battle is still in progress, you are not allowed to release a Pokémon. Losing a shiny Pokemon is really a painful experience but I hope you will understand. I am extremely sorry again as we were unable to assist you in any way. This thread will be closed as I already said there's nothing we can do further regarding your situation.
