A few tips&tricks

Hello, I have noticed a lot of players have issues with lvling and thus having difficulties with beating Kanto e4 or even some of the gym leaders so I decided to put some tips that might help out new players.

Evolving and leveling Pokemon

Most players decide to evolve their Pokemon the moment the option is available. It is true that an evolved Poke has, in most cases, more power that it's former form but there is something else you should know before evolving your Poke, experience. Basic forms demand less exp per level and therefore are easier to level them. Even when they're weaker you can still play the type advantage card, for instance picking an ghost or dark type Pokemon vs Sabrina's psychic Pokemon where even with a weaker form Poke you can still deal substantial damage and win the fight easily.

There are some Pokemon that cannot learn a move unless they have evolved and gain it by lvling it. Move relearners in Saffron and Cerulean can teach your Pokemon moves he did not learn and by that you can easily keep it on a lower form and later when you decide to evolve it just teach him the moves he skipped. 1 move relearning costs 2000 $.

I would recommend that if you really want a Pokemon which can use it's power to the maximum to visit these topics Pokemon Natures , EV Training Hotspots. Picking a good nature and ev training your Poke is the best way to go. However if you find ev training dull and don't feel like grinding so much, players with access to Johto can get Macho Brace by trading a Drowzee for a Machop (he is holding the item) with a biker in front of the Pokemon Center in Goldenrod. It doubles the ev's but makes your Poke slower. (As it is said in the Ev Training Hotspots topic by lordcobrakai) And if you have difficulties with putting a good team together Purple has a good guide for you Purple's Guide to Team Building

Leftovers

Do not leave S.S. Anne in Vermilion before you get Leftovers. I have seen some players just take the ship by storm not checking the trash bins and collecting this item. Not only can it reach a good price it can also help your tanky Pokemons out as it restores HP after every move in battle. Upon completion and leaving the ship you cannot return back and take it so be careful to check every bin before you're done with the story. This item is available only 1 per player, so you cannot buy it from a vendor but you have to buy it from a player if you want it. (atm. I cannot check in which trash bin the item is but will edit or post when I do find out/remember)

Trading items

This is very simple and I'd say most players know how this works but there have been some mishaps. Items that you want to trade you have to give it to a Pokemon to hold it and then trade the Pokemon with the item attached to him. Use what is called by most people "Junk Pokemon", low lvl Pokemons with bad nature/iv's that really no one would ever want even to look at it. Open your backpack and DRAG the item on the Pokemon while he is in your party. I have seen a lot of players clicking on the item and if it's consumable actually using it instead of giving it to the Poke to hold it. And when trading always be sure to check if the items you want to buy are attached to the Pokemon!

Will add more tips on a later date but by then, have fun!
