Ash222
Hi guys, thank you to anyone reading this, and if you can offer any help/suggestions/answers [glow=red]I would really appreciate your input[/glow]! I have been playing PRO for a while now and am really enjoying the game :) I have almost finished Johto by now and I have some questions about how to best set up my Team. It is a long post, just to be warned :) and also has some more basic questions at the end. These are the Pokemon I currently have: Do you think the EV’s they have are good? Which moves should they also be taught by TM/move tutors/relearning? Gengar: will get full EV’s on speed and SpAtk Slowbro: will get full EV’s on SPAtk and HP Snorlax: EV’s on Atk (I know its nature sucks) and HP Snubbul (Granbull): was really useful in getting through Johto but probably has limited use from now on :( Whismur (Exploud): will (re-) learn Boomburst which deals 210 damage to an Pokemon but rock/ghost/steel and can take several hits from non-fighting moves Geodude: My idea was to use it with defense curl+rollout against a weaker pokemon at beginning of a battle, then have it roll over the later ones.. but not sure how effective this will be, with its low speed, many weaknesses and rollout often missing Shinx/luxray: just really pretty/cute pokemon even though there must be better electric ones (see question below).. it should have learned Wild Charge though at Lv 45, but didn’t.. [glow=red]a mistake by the game[/glow]? Oh, and also I have a Nidoking but it has to many weaknesses (esp. very common ground and water moves knock it out one-hit) for my liking so I will not train it any further.. I am also planning to include a Lapras, Dragonite, Talonflame and Salamence; how should I best set them up? My ideas would be: Lapras: surf, ice beam, psych, thunderbolt, Evs on SpAtk and HP Dragonite: dragon rage, thunder punch, fire punch, wing attack, EVs on Atk and Speed or HP (?) Talonflame: some fire and flying moves (plus solar beam, theft or status moves), EVs on Atk and Speed Based on this fletchling, or a better one if I can find one :) Salamence:1-2 dragon moves, fly plus giga impact or zen headbutt, EVs on Speed and Atk Also, I might catch and include a Chansey; would you advise me to do so? moveset Refresh, Bide, counter (if it can learn this, I think maybe it can’t or only via really complicated breeding), holding evolite (or should I not evolve one of my other pokemon and have them hold it?) And just for the sake of it (pokemon nostalgia) I want a charizard, should I continue training this Charmander or find/trade a better one? Is charizard actually any use (gets hit by water/electric/rock easily) apart from, well, being charizard - and thus awesome? Some thoughts on best (realisticly attainable) electric Pokemon: The point for is to have a fast one that one-hit downs all water/flying pokemon.. so this would be Raichu or even better Jolteon (just need an Eeve with good speed and SpAtk), maybe also Electivire for physical electric moves. But then, there is also Magnezone which is very slow but but has massive SpAtk and has resistances to many types of moves. Ampharos would be too slow to hold up with the other Pokes mentioned, right? So, which one would you go for? How can I obtain the items needed to evolve to Electivire or Magnezone? Once I have all of these at or around Lv 100 (and with best EV’s), [glow=red]how would you set up my team of 6[/glow] so that the strongest pokemons are included, but also most eventualities in a battle are covered? Any more attainable Pokes you would suggest I get and train? I will go to Hoenn soon, so could be from there as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ About [glow=red]EV’s[/glow]: I think it is usually rather obvious when Atk/SpAtk/Speed should be increased, but how do you decide which defensive ones to go for? HP covers all moves, but Def and SpDef could eliminate weaknesses, or make one of the two stats particularly high.. is there some [glow=red]general rule or guideline[/glow] how to decide on this? [glow=red]Rare candies[/glow]: Is there any reason why one should not use them to, say get a Poke from lv 95 to 100? Like stats will be same, and EV's can even at lv 100 still get changed, or not? Finally, three rather unrelated questions: 1) My beedrill knows [glow=red]thief[/glow], and it never holds any item.. however I try to steal items from wild pokes by hitting them with the move.. still I have found nothing so far and even if there is only a 5% chance of them having one, why does it never seem to work? Just bad luck? 2) How many times can [glow=red]move tutors[/glow] be used: again and again, lke TM’s you can buy; or just once.. or is there some cool-down period? 3) Last but not least: how the heck do I get to this item in Goldenrod? [glow=red]Thanks again for reading, and please feel free to comment :)[/glow] Link to comment https://pokemonrevolution.net/forum/topic/34891-looking-for-suggestions-about-my-team-and-some-more-questions/ Share on other sites

Coop33
So first of all, boom wall of text, many ppl who could help might not even consider reading this. xd But ill try to help u a bit out. U gonna use that team for pvp too or just pve? The first thing i notice at your pokes u wanna put in your team all have the wrong nature. Do u use synchs while catching pokes? If not, u might get the most important synchro-pokes to get a 50% chance of getting right nature on your poke. To get an idea which nature/moveset is best i would consider looking up that poke on smogon strategy or similar sites. And then inform yourself or test if the moves are implemented/coded which u wanna use. Just if u wanna inform yourself about a poke, reading the articles why they run this ev-split/nature/moves gonna help u a lot. E.g.: Hex (on your gengar) isnt working properly. Boomburst for exploud isnt implemented. For team-building, if u start with pvp, i suggest using a balanced team. So u use a Spatk sweeper, an attack sweeper, a physical wall, a special wall and 2 other pokes of which u like to add. Maybe a spinner (remove hazards) some other walls for coverage or other sweepers for coverage. I dont wanna go to much in detail here, this would be to much. Quote So, which one would you go for? How can I obtain the items needed to evolve to Electivire or Magnezone? Magnezone u evolve with lvl up in power plant, item to evolve into electivire u get one in cerulean cave or on wild electabuzz, sometimes they hold it. or buy in trade.^^ Quote About EV’s: I think it is usually rather obvious when Atk/SpAtk/Speed should be increased, but how do you decide which defensive ones to go for? HP covers all moves, but Def and SpDef could eliminate weaknesses, or make one of the two stats particularly high.. is there some general rule or guideline how to decide on this? Look up their sets, so u get an idea about it. There is no rule like: "U have to do this or its bad!" Think about what role u need for your team and if theres a poke u can catch and fullfil this role. Then just go for it. xd Many pokes are possible to run with different sets and usages. U get that knowledge with more experience. Quote Rare candies: Is there any reason why one should not use them to, say get a Poke from lv 95 to 100? Like stats will be same, and EV's can even at lv 100 still get changed, or not? The reason to not use them is they are not super easy obtainable and expensive. But if u have enough u can use them ofc. I suggest always to evolve early enough, on lvl 99 at latest. And always rare candy the last level. Just to prevent a sever crash and u dont obtain a lvl 100 pupitar if u log in after a crash cause u couldnt accept the evo in that moment. Stats are always the same on lvl 100, even if u use 99 candies for 1 poke.;) EVs can be trained on lvl 100 too, yes. Quote 1) My beedrill knows thief, and it never holds any item.. however I try to steal items from wild pokes by hitting them with the move.. still I have found nothing so far and even if there is only a 5% chance of them having one, why does it never seem to work? Just bad luck? Just bad luck! It even works when your beedril holds an item. There pops up a message in battle window like: beedril has stolen silver powder...or smth. like this. Thats how u notice it. If a poke can hold item on that map u can see if u look on the right top of your screen and look which poke are obtainable on this route/area. If poke has the "item-icon" u can get a item from it with a specific chance. Quote 2) How many times can move tutors be used: again and again, lke TM’s you can buy; or just once.. or is there some cool-down period? So often as u have money to pay them. :) No Cd. Quote 3) Last but not least: how the heck do I get to this item in Goldenrod? I cant even count how often i tried to get that item. If u know how, let me know. xd Hope i could help u a bit!
