I started with pikachu and if you talk with the scientist in Oak's Lab after gain all medals from Kanto he'll give you the special item for pikachu which doubles its atk and satk (I don't remember the name of the item). The probem is that I evolved pikachu to raichu and the item doesn't work on it.
