Before I start writing out this suggestion, I do know this has been suggested before.

But I'd still like to share my version of this suggestion so I can work it out of my system and stop thinking about it.

The idea is simple, a saddle that allows you to ride your pokemon, but it's a bit more complicated like that.

What would be added to the game is a saddle, that you can buy from a NPC for a large price.

This saddle is an item, such as the bikes and fishing rods, which can be placed onto your hotbar.

When activated this item will place the saddle onto your pokemon in your first slot, and you'll be able to ride this pokemon.

But it's not that simple, as there are certain requirements that you need to meet to be able to ride a pokemon.

  • Your pokemon needs to be atleast 1,5x your height, if the pokemon is any shorter the pokemon will be unable to carry you.
  • A pokemon can only be ridden in certain areas. For example
    • You cannot ride a water pokemon on land, or ride a none water-type in the ocean.
    • You might think, a dragon or flying type should be able to cross waters, and normally yes, but these pokemon are carrying you aswell so they need to be able to touch the land from time to time to keep flying.
    • You can also not ride dragon or flying pokemon inside caves, because the ceiling of the caves are too low for these pokemon to fly around.
    • Flame pokemon will not be able to carry you in ice lands, because they become too weak because of the cold.
    • Water pokemon can also not be ridden in hot lands, because they're too weak aswell in these lands.
    • And the list goes on with these kind of limitations for which pokemon can be used in which lands.

[*] The speed at which the pokemon moves depends on the speed of the actual pokemon. This means if you've a pokemon with a slow speed, you'll actually move slow aswell while riding it. Because of this it doesn't mean you'll move as fast as if you were using a mount or bike, but if you choose the pokemon right, you may actually be able to move just as fast as a mount or bike.

[*] Each pokemon has a certain stamina, that's calculated between strength and speed, and if your pokemon runs out of stamina, you won't be able to ride the pokemon unless it's recovered it's stamina. You can also recover stamina by going to a pokemon center or by giving the pokemon potions or giving the pokemon enough rest to recover stamina. Be careful though, if a pokemon runs completely out of stamina, the pokemon will faint and you'll not be able to use the pokemon in battle anymore. Your pokemon also needs sufficient stamina to be able to carry you, so a lower level pokemon will not have enough stamina to carry you.

[*] A pokemon will also need to have alot of happiness, because you wouldn't carry someone either if you don't like them.

There's also some benefits using the saddle on pokemon, such as...

  • You will not be attacked while riding a pokemon by wild pokemon that are 5 levers lower or below the current level of your pokemon. This works as if you're using repel.
  • You'll be able to reach certain areas in a map using flying pokemon that'd otherwise require you to use cut, are cliffs that you cannot cross or would not be reachable by default.
  • Some pokemon are able to jump, these pokemon can jump over cliffs and cross them, which otherwise would not be possible.
  • Pokemon that give of light can be used as a light source in dark caves, so you do not need to use a pokemon with flash.
  • in rare cases, you might actually be able to move faster than a normal mount.

There's also some downsides to this idea that I'd like to mention, such as...

  • Some pokemon sprites would need to be reworked to correctly display the size of that pokemon (such as charizard, blastoise and venusaur)
  • Each pokemon needs to be looked at, to see if that pokemon can be ridden, and which special riding abilities that pokemon would have
  • A stamina system would need to be added to each pokemon, along with potions to recover stamina.

If the sprite of a pokemon is correctly scaled I guess it should be possible to just simply place the skin of a player ontop of the sprite of a pokemon to make it look like you're riding a pokemon.

And as mentioned before, I know it's been suggested before and it'll most probably not be added, but this is my version of it that I wanted to share.

If you know it been suggested before why waste the energy. Luckily I've never seen the other posts so I give my opionion anyway instead of just saying it wont happen.

Really cool idea, but here's some downsides you failed to notice. The Time to impliment it and how this would affect the servers.

This game has only one person doing the code, the main dev Shane. So anything major that gets add is added by him. A suggestion would a huge undertaking to code its insane.

There also the fact that this would make the mount system as it is completely useless. Which means that the coins shop would be a lot less appealing to actually use. Which means much less money comming in to run the servers. Which means if something happens like what happened to blue server this week. They might not be able to move the server and alot of players could be screwed.

I posted this suggestion so I could work out the idea as much as possible and finally get the damn thing out of my head, otherwise I keep pondering on about it, so now that I posted it I can finally stop thinking about it.

I'm a relative new player to the game (less than a week) so I don't really have an idea yet on who the team is that are working on it, but I did realize that this would be a very big thing to code and that it'd take alot of time.

I wouldn't really say that normal mounts would be completely useless with this idea though. a pokemon with a saddle wouldn't be as fast as a normal mount, only with some rare cases where a ride-able pokemon has a high speed stat and enough stamina to keep it up for a long ride, so it'll take a player quite some time till they've found a pokemon and raised it far enough to be able to accomplish this. to prevent people from getting this too easy you could put a high price tag on the saddle and have a large number of badges required, it could really well be a mid to end game item.

Sorry, but if you can get a mount or bike for a cheaper price than the saddle, I don't see any reasons why people would buy it, especially if the Pokemon itself is slower than mounts/bikes. My point is, it will have pretty much the same function of mounts/bikes, so we will have to reject this suggestion.
