Trading Pokemon!

Hi all,

So a bunch of us were talking about trading ingame, and somebody suggested that an auction house should be introduced due to people not honouring their pokemon auctions, or lying about the current bid. I believe that an auction house would be overall damaging to the community, and it got me thinking. What would be a way of maintaining the community whilst enhancing the trading system? And then the idea struck me; a pokemon showroom!

Before I delve further into my idea, just note that these are very early and preliminary thoughts. There are bound to be flaws in the system that I'm suggesting, and as such I'm welcoming all criticism and feedback.

Anyway, so how the pokemon showroom would work is that every so often (I'm thinking ~48 hours would be good) the pokemon showroom will open. Prior to the showroom opening, there will be a way for players to obtain tickets, such as being found on pokemon or in digsites. In order to put a pokemon on show, you must have one of these tickets. These tickets will be trade-able, but they will be limited to a value of ~5 per showroom event. Prior to the showroom event starting, the players with these tickets may select their desired pokemon to be put on show. Once the pokemon is selected, the player is not able to withdraw it from the event. Other players may go to a public viewing area of the pokemon which will remain open for ~12 hours, where you will then be able to place a bid on the pokemon of your choice. Once the event ends, the highest bidder will receive the pokemon they won the bid on, and the player who submitted the pokemon will receive 90% of the bid (this will help combat players from having their friends boost the price). In the event that a ticket is obtained but a pokemon is not submitted, the ticket will crumble into dust once the event starts.

My logic behind this system is that the pokemon showroom tickets will encourage player-to-player interaction through buying/selling tickets, as well as offering players with outstanding pokemon to be able to sell their pokemon, all the whilst ensuring that the buyer is not mislead in this transaction. The overall process is also highly social by having all players gather in an area if they are wanting to participate in the showroom. As I said earlier that these were very early thoughts, and I'm interested to see what others think about this or a similar system.

Thanks for reading, and please offer any feedback and criticism. :)

I don't know any of this with 100% certainty, but the auction house that we plan on bringing to PRO won't have any of the issues you mentioned.

I'm *assuming* that any Pokemon you place in the auction house would be "locked" for the duration of the auction. At the end of the auction, the Pokemon is then transferred to the player for the price that it was sold at. Basically, if you put the Pokemon up for auction, then it will be sold if there's a bid. Again, this is speculation, but I'd assume that there would also be a starting price set and other safe guards to ensure that extremely valuable battlers or Shiny Pokemon wouldn't be sold for $5 Pokedollars or some low amount like that. The current bid would also update itself, so there would be no way to lie about the bid.

What I CAN guarantee is that we won't introduce a system that's easily exploitable or one that hasn't been well thought out.

Okay.

Why?

All of that is no better than an auction house if you don't actually present an argument of when, why, and how an auction house is objectively damaging and then successfully defend it.

You can't use your own brain to weighs the pros and cons?

Pros:

Auction house - easier to trade/sell pokemon to a wider audience and buy/seller safety measures.

Cons:

Monopolization, pricing wars, irregular economic based prices.

Correct Miles?

Oh! Sorry, it's hard to concentrate when you're breathing down my neck so loudly. Well, all I can say is it's not my job to define or argue his/her position for him/her; I'm not the original poster and I don't necessarily agree with the core suggestion at this time. Don't mind me, I'll wait until Phunny has a chance to speak.

I feel that auction houses are damaging to the community because they encourage anti-social behaviour. Instead of engaging with players in the chat you simply list the pokemon and wait for someone to buy it. Also as Pinknblack said, it encourages price wars and monopolization, which is damaging to the overall community. The current system is place is great for encouraging players to be active and interact with one another, but some players are being deceptive. That is what my proposed system aims to achieve, whilst still maintaining this game's strong sense of community.

Thanks for the question and replies. I wasn't aware that there is already an AH system in the plans, but I have no doubt that it'll be thought out.
