317699 People always post their pokemon in chat asking if it is good. How do people know whether its good or not?

By experience; most of the pokés have higher base stats in some ... stats

Only a few like Mew, Celebi, Jirachi etc. have exactly 100 base stat in each

So, for some pokés, attack will be far more important than special attack, e.g. Snorlax as he has 110 base atk and only 65 base spatk (not to mention that almost every move it can learn is physical)

Therefore, IVs in atk will be important, and those in spatk negligible.

The nature impacts on 2 stats: one is boosted by 10%, the other one is decreased by 10% (few natures are neutral but that's usually not a nature you'll want)

One more question

People always post their pokemon in chat asking if it is good. How do people know whether its good or not? What are they looking for?

First of all.. thank you for being one of the few people who cant tobe able to tell for themselves instead of spamming the chat asking for a rate nonstop lol..

Basically, if you look at your Pokemon's base stats you will see that one or two stats are higher than the other. This means that the Pokemon usually needs these stats to be most effective. If your Pokemon's highest base stat is spatk, you don't want a nature that decreases spatk. (orange number= decrased by nature, green number= increased by nature) Also as soon as you see the IVs of a Pokemon are lower than 20 in the stats it needs you can usually say it's not that good.

Some Pokemon work as tanks, others as sweepers.. Depending on what you want to use them as it gets more complicated. I suggest reading this guide if you have time. :)

317698 It means that, at lvl 50, you'll need 8 EVs in order to gain 1 stat.

Lvl 25: 16 EVs for 1 stat.

And so on

One more question

https://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/ is a good reference for good natures / builds / etc for whatever pokemon you're looking at. It take some learning, but you get the hang of natures / evs eventually. When people are asking if a pokemon is good, you are looking at IVs, nature and ability. If you were unaware each IV can max out at 31, so the higher the number for each stat, the better.

Ex:

This surskit I caught has a good nature according to smogon, the ability should turn into Intimidate when he evolves, and all of his IVs (orange numbers, are pretty high). As far as I know, though, the builds on smogon are made and submitted by other pokemon players, so not all of them will necessarily be the best, but overall, as I said, its a good reference.

Hope I helped and wasn't too overly confusing, other people can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: rip, me neither Fippsie, lol
