I am trying to get through dark cave south to reach some higher level pokemon as grinding is taking too long.

I got everything I needed to progress through the dark cave; flash and rock smash.

When I get to a certain point in the cave I get the messsage: "Hmm, better not roam too far in the darkness", even though I have flash active.

I know you can get through as I have seen videos of people doing so.

Maybe you have to go through all the way from Blackthorne down, to be able to go back up. If you barely started Johto and you are trying to get to those higher leveled Pokemon then thats probably the reason why.

Yeah. I guessed it was probably a problem with the game progresssion route. Maybe that's why it doesn't work. Thanks anyway.

I'm sorry to hear about this inconvenience. Unfortunately as TheGoat has said, you have to go all the way down from the Dark Cave entrance by Blackthorn City first before you can progress through certain parts of the Dark Cave if you have barely started Johto. Also you can only progress from Dark Cave North to Dark Cave South, not from south to north because there is a ledge that stops you from progressing upward.
