I was surfing from cinnibar island to pallet town and went to battle one of the fisherman on the little land plots. Since i was in the water and not right next to him, he wanted to battle me but could not move into the water so I was frozen there. I logged out and tried to log back in but the game will not connect now.

same just happened to me after exiting a trainer battle; game became completely unresponsive except for ESC key

 

the server went down, you can see on the status page

Oh, when I went and checked guess it was to fast and hadn't been updated. thx

I am sorry to hear that you have experienced this inconvenience. You have experienced this because the server had crashed. In these cases you can always try checking the Offical Server Status Checker, and please do give it a little bit to update :)
