Unfortunately, you cannot change your starter, but if you're having trouble with the first gym, it's good to try to get a Budew in Viridian Forest which spawns in Viridian Forest in the Morning/Day. Furthermore, you can also get a mankey from Route 22. There is also a trainer in Viridian City who will trade her Oddish for a Pidgey that has 15 IVs or more in Speed and Attack. It's good to level your pokemon to 15+ to increase your chances in beating the gym.

1 Year oh noo! i finished Sinnoh by playing 8 months i think and u 1 year no badges so bad luck, Train your pokes then you can get the badge
