in case you are talking about the items in your bottom left bar, you can use them as they are shortcutted by clicking the proper key or by a left mouse click on the choosen item icon. However, when you have shortcuts, it does not automatily mean that you carry this item with you at the moment. Make sure to take a look at your bag and look if you really carry those items with you.
