Sheer force deals extra damage but in return prevents secondary effects. This also takes effect on life orb, if you're using a move that triggers Sheer force. Let's say you use earthquake. Sheer force does not trigger when using earthquake, because it has no secondary effect. So you deal your normal damage + life orb boost with recoil If you use Thunderbolt for example, which has a secondary effect (para chance), Sheer force gets triggered and you deal your normal damage + Sheer force damage + life orb damage without taking recoil.
