when I try to use the holes to go through a cave, even if I have the shovel, I have to select a pokemon with a dig. it's normal? otherwise it doesn't work. but i can dig diggable spots.. so i dont think friendship is a problem

The dig holes check for the Plain badge and the shovel. It is possible that you didn't have the badge and therefore it didn't let you go through it. There is, however, a bug which makes it so the holes don't check for the badge when you use a Pokemon. I've forwarded this to the CS team and there are now aware of it. Hope this has clarified things for you.
