It is possible that you didn't have the badge and therefore it didn't let you go through it. There is, however, a bug which makes it so the holes don't check for the badge when you use a Pokemon. I've forwarded this to the CS team and there are now aware of it. Hope this has clarified things for you. Locked as resolved in-game.
