Hey, yes the quest is closed due to a major error.

It will be activated again once it is fixed.

so no other ways to get the stone

Thats correct unfortunately. You will have to patient and wait until the quest is working without any issues again to be able to get the megastones.

what if you had lost all your items when trying to get the stone

During one of the previous updates, an error had appeared inside the quest area, which caused a few players to lose an important portion of their inventories. Although the error itself is fixed, it revealed that a poorly timed crash could have the same effect, so we'll need to make the code more robust to such unexpected cases before reopening the quest.

 

Now that we've managed to restore the inventories of the players, I will be looking into working on that during the next few days. I will be leaving an announcement in our official Discord once it's reopened.
