Ash Ketchum Bug Starter Bug?

Hey there,

 

I just started this game yesterday and have been really enjoying it. I'm a huge Yellow fan so I wanted to pick Pikachu as my started and get Ash's hat. I defeated him in Viridian Forest. Progressed to Route 9 today and happened to find him near the top. I had my starter Pikachu in the 2nd slot. When I talked to Ash he said something along the lines of remembering the battle in the Forest and then told me that I couldn't help him because I didn't choose Pikachu as my starter... Bro straight up lied to my face. And then disappeared without a trace... Is this a disappointing bug?

 

 

I swapped Pikachu to the first slot in hopes that I could talk to him again and call him on his BS but he is just gone now.

Firstly, I understand that some things can be frustrating, especially when they do not work at expected or intended; however, please remember that in order to work through these issues a level head must be had. Now to address your issue. There was recently a change with the starters which had an effect on this quest and for that we apologize. 

 

Could you go back to Viridian Forest and you should be able to talk to Ash there. It should now recognize that Pikachu is your starter and you should be able to progress this quest accordingly.

Thanks for your reply, that wasn't directed at a real person. The bug isn't a big deal to me. I meant no offense whatsoever, least of all to the people I'm asking for help from.

 

Anyways, I finally returned to where I think he originally was and I don't see him anywhere.

The next place to check would be his location on Route 9. In this location, he should inform you that a Mankey has stolen his hat and that you need to find it from a wild one. You can use a Pokemon with the frisk ability or covet / thief move to assist identify if the Mankey has the item.

Hey there, I went back to Route 9 and he's gone still. I did talk to him on Route 9 after battling him in Viridian before I made this post. He said I didn't choose Pikachu as a starter, which I did, and that I couldn't help him then disappeared. I am pretty confused as I chose Pikachu so I could do the quest.
