They don't appear in backpack. You can check balance by talking with guy in historical site. He can also trade some stuff for your artifact pieces.

i am at 2300 discoveries ~ and cant get fossil . nor tyrogue anymore

You can use sync if you revive fossils in the site. Meet wild fossil pokes, so worth
