Hey everyone,

So I just got to Hoenn and I was wondering which starter can solo the most gyms for story and is considered the best in pvp as well?

As far as PvP goes, the best would probably be Torchic, but only with its Hidden Ability. Safest choice would be Mudkip as it doesn't need its HA to be viable.

Mudkip does the job for the story. I wouldn't bother about whats good for Pvp since its most likely to not have the best nature,IVs etc

Swampert can easily solo every Hoenn gym with its dual stab and ice beam. And since speed boost Blaziken is banned from ranked battles, Swampert will still be the best in pvp as a decent tank.

Definitely Mudkip. The only part I had a problem was right before the 8th gym as a rival battle contained a pokémon that out-sped my (at the time Lv99 Marshtomp) and it knew a nasty grass attack. Luckily sturdy Magnemite came in to save the day. Everything else was just straight-up sweeping especially since I could teach it moves such as Surf and Ice Beam instantly.
