I know this has come up zillions of times. Pokemon Renaming.

 

It's a cosmetic and when I migrated from other pokemon game, they had it. I really need that customization. I'm about to donate for all the tools. I really need "Team TANK!", not Charmander, etc. If its put into the donation shop, there will be far less incentive for donators to attempt to put in crude names. If there are too many requests to handle, increase the donation.Put in a rule in BOLD, "If it don't sound right, sorry, thanks for the donation, and name denied, no refunds. Reason: Reference to male genitalia". The donations will more than cover the cost. Also, Don't allow any names to even show up in game until they have been approved. Inform players it can take a week or two for approval.

 

I insist, it's a cosmetic. It's important. Nothing shows ingame without approval, and the time to approve is covered by donations. It's not about the donations though, its really about personalization.

 

Do you want to name your dog Husky? Her name is Mary.

I bet renaming's not gonna happen, ever.. You should know for what reasons. But good luck to you man. :Crazy:

Ranaming accounts wont happen as it can cause a detriment to the database and renaming Pokemon wont happen because you will always get people using non-pg names. That is, if i understood your suggestion correctly.

We appreciate the suggestion that you made, unfortunately for the time being we can't add it due to certain restrictions mentioned here:

 

(Under "Changing nicknames for Pokemon")

This is hard to manage, as it's easy to abuse a nickname system and submit inappropriate nicknames. Furthermore, nicknaming would add extra data per Pokemon - this might not sound like a lot, but it all adds up very quickly to overstrain the database unnecessarily. This suggestion has been and will continue to be denied.

Oh okay. I can understand over strain of database.

 

For overstrain, first hide the identity name from the player, but not the developer

 

Pokemon.Nickname = "Firemander";

Show Nickname beside real name();

If user!=Developer {

hide.realPokemonName;

}

 

Developer sees this:

FireMander (Charmander);

 

Users see this in thier limited client:

FireMander;

What if you created a seperate pokemon for each pokemon? Instead of 700 pokemon, you'll have 1400 in the database (What?? how does that help us?)...

-700 are special clones of the original which hold an additional variable.

 

Example:

 

Player Bob has 100 pokemon, each 1 identity string sent to the server. Thats 100 checks on a player from the server. Thats how it is now.

 

Player Bob buys one of those clone nickname pokemon. Clone Pokemon come with 2 strings. Identity and Nickname

 

Player Bob donated $3 to increase his checks from 100, to 101.

 

Server now has 2 LOOPS in code. 2 arrays. The Pokemon Array and the EXTRA SPECIAL Pokemon Array.

Pokemon Array just went from 1 million checks on all pokemon per second, to 999,999.

EXTRA SPECIAL Pokemon Array went from 0 checks to 2. For Player Bobs FireMander (Charmander).

 

I believe the original plan was.. "If we give pokemon names, we will be sending out 2 million checks a second." Not with the assistance of the EXTRA SPECIAL Pokemon Array.

 

But then everyone will want nicknames and our EXTRA SPECIAL pokemon array will be over 9,000!

 

"Yes, and so will your donations be over 9,000, if that is the case. More powerful servers handed to you, paid for."

 

Now. This is far more efficient than lets say.. 700 pokemon with 2 strings each. 2 Million checks.

Nicknames are possible if someone would like to go in, see how the system works, and rework it. 700 cloned pokemon dont take long to load or download. Maybe about 15 more seconds to boot up Pokemon Revolution. Where it gets ugly is the rework itself. Once you have a plan, someone with motivation has to go in, and.. well... make love to 700 pokemon, in code. Maybe flip through several scripts per pokemon. About 40 hours of work if the person understands the system well.Anything is possible. Just need that person. Thats all.

Ok, assuming i know what game you've migrated from (the one with roms needed, if not sorry), heres a few differences between this game and that game. The maps in this are custom made and are hosted from the server, not from roms, so a lot, and i mean a lot of space is taken up compared to the other. And the fact is this game was created with 50 man servers in mind, so the code reflects that. This means that even that few variables you have used in your code example could still overstrain the system. And unlike the other game, this is a pg game, with kids in mind (for some reason), so you would either have a auto profanity filter (which will overstrain the system) or have the admins go thorugh the probably massive amount of requests that would come from this suggestion getting implemented.

 

Look, i get where your coming from, I would love to be able to nickname my pokemon, but if it was going to be in the game, it would have need to be coded in near the beginning of this game development.

Put simply, we have already stated reasons that adequately justify the reasons why this has been denied in the past.

In addition we have clearly stated that it will not be implemented in future.

 

Continued discussion will only lead to tails being chased, and further frustration. For this reason I will lock this topic, as there is nothing further to comment.
