The sites feel empty and kind of lack excitement for hunting rares. All the pokemon that are in them (ferroseed, noibat, houndour, cacnea, nincada, timburr, riolu, clwitzer, bergmite, torkoal, sawk, throh, golett, yamask, drilbur, beldum...) either don't exist as shiny or there are only a couple across all the servers. It's not like excavation sites are an efficient way of farming these pokemon, as you average maybe 1 or 2 encounters per 24h, it should be unlocked to be shiny. After the item rework, which was great, it makes encountering pokemon that aren't what you're looking for by far the worst thing to get from each rock. I personally think the pokemon should be the highlight, and items be secondary.

I don't know whether or not this is possible, but I think it would revitalize excavation sites, as I've been doing them lately again and they're largely ghost towns. If this is impossible, maybe just an explanation as to why it's impossible/not going to change. On Neroli's post about special counterparts, it just says shiny locked with no explanation.

Thanks.

Back then the explanation was that NPC-triggered encounter can't yield a shiny, but yeah, we never get a real explanation for why it can't.

Couldn't they just make it so that the NPC can spawn either a regular or a shiny, with the chance for spawning a shiny be the regular shiny chance?
