Even tho the server total online user count is at, lets say 1597/1600 There are still a lot of players constantly trying to log in. This creates traffic, hence why the sudden freeze on your client while attempting to log in. Be patient and keep trying, you'll eventually log in.

Most likely you were caught between the traffic time or downtime. You can view the online user or offline status of the server here : https://www.pokemonrevolution.net/ Note : If the numbers are stuck at a certain number for quite a while, means its deadlocked.

Make sure your drivers are upto date. And as lethalmike said, overflowing dust can cause additional heating to your laptop. I suggest cleaning it up, if you don't know how to, take it to an electronics store, you might physically harm your laptop if you're new to the procedure.
