I don’t mean to be rude but the old man NPC in viridian city literally told you to don’t evolve your pokes too early. if you bothered to read what he said then you wouldn’t have this problem. Also, this game is meant to be MMO style ofc it’s supposed to be harder.

I believe within Love Island, your pokemon with rock smash is required at least a certain amount of happiness in order for you to be able to smash those crystals.
