Ghost queue lasts as long as the regular queue so you could be in it for in excess of 30 minutes

When it says "logging in" it means you're connected, you can from here get something called a "ghost queue" which means you are in queue but it's not showing. From here, just be patient, you'll be logged on once you get to the end of the queue (this could literally be up to 30 minutes plus depending on queue size. Hope this helps!

Kappa But yes, this is generally intended, you train quite hard and things get easier, this isn't supposed to be easy like the real pokemon games. So just have fun and take your time, cutting corners will only make things harder in this game!

Connection issues are usually because of bandwidth issues which are momentarily cutting off your connection for just a second which causes the “cannot connect to server” message. All you can do is keep trying to log in until you get the “logging in” message. This is directly from Bulbapedia, so to answer your question, it's because it doesn't, even in the real games.

As has been said, all movesets etc are 5th/6th gen, along with plans towards things such as Mega evolution in the future. EVs/IVs are the same as you'd expect, with the exception of there will never be breeding, so grabbing that "perfect" pokemon will be much, much harder.
