Hello, glad to see you enjoying it. There are a few items that increase the power of certain moves, such as magnet for electric moves and black glasses for dark. If you're referring to ev's there is a macho brace attainable in Johto. Other than that there are not many I'm aware of that would change the stats its self. Possibly things like choice scarf which is in the game. Many items you may be used to for competitive battles are not in the game yet though.

Make sure he checks spam. Also some email providers do not work as well as others. Gmail is the best. It can take a few hours though.

In that case you would want to close the client and make sure the server is up. Also clicking join again periodically.

Sometimes there is a ghost que where it isn't fully in, so you can't see the que screen yet since it's still connecting.

When this happens you may want to restart your client a couple times, and also there are times where it is just loading you into the que. So being patient can help as well.

Hidden abilities are just a random small chance of happening.
