This is a server sided issue which is usually caused when you aren't logged out correctly. You will be able to play again after the next server crash/ reboot.

You aren't meant to go to Saffron for a while in the story. To progress, you first need to get the SS Anne ticket from Bill on Route 25. Then you need to head to Route 5 and take the underground passage to get to Route 6. After that head south to Vermillion City and you will be able to continue the story from there. Good luck!

There are a few things you can do to prevent this in the future. Next time to encounter a ghost queue, restart your client a few times and you should be able to see the queue again. Also, double check your account details before you log in. Make sure they are correct, you can also use the "Remember password" button so you don't have to enter your password every time you play. With the loading maps issue this could either be down to poor internet connection or server lag, I recommend waiting 5 or 10 minutes before restarting your client.

Unfortunately, no. The only legendary Pokemon you can catch at the moment are Mew, Celebi and Jirachi. However you need the 3 legendary beast's seen data to continue your quest.

EDIT: You have to have started with a Pikachu to teach it surf. You also need to find the HM Surf in the safari zone 3 before you can teach a Pikachu the move.

Grinding is part of an MMO, it's hard and time consuming and everyone has to do it. If you grind for another hour or two you should have most of your Pokemon at level 60, this should be good enough to beat the gym. Again, good luck!

It's not impossible at all. Please remember, this is an MMO which means the game is supposed to be difficult and is completely unlike the original games. All I can recommend is some more grinding to balance out your Pokemon's levels. Good luck!

Try restarting the client a few times, hopefully this will fix your issue. EDIT: I just checked and it seems that the Blue server is offline. Hmm, I'm honestly not sure how I can help. I've never seen someone with this issue on Windows 8.1 Hopefully someone with more knowledge on this can help you.
